Will Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy land the Everton midfielder in January?

Ross Barkley is being tipped strongly as Tottenham Hotspur’s priority in January, with even his manager Sam Allardyce admitting he does not know where his future lies.

The Mail report Chelsea are refusing to give up on Barkley, and are attempting to show him that he can play a prominent role in their five-man midfield system, particularly as a successor to Cesc Fabregas.

Barkley was recently linked with a January move to Tottenham, with his Everton contract set to run down at the end of the season.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino last week spoke of his desire to sign players, even focusing on English talents, a hint many took as meaning Barkley.

Barkley snubbed Chelsea on deadline day, with The Express reporting he wanted a move to Tottenham, who had backed off due to his injury.

What Tottenham can’t do now, is get complacent.

Chelsea’s resolve and determination to land the Everton star could convince him if Tottenham do not also state their case.

Barkley wants Spurs, but if it is Chelsea doing all the running, the Blues could yet get their man, with the added weight in their favour their ability to offer higher wages.

The ball is in the court of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, with his manager turning up the heat on him to get deals done next month.

Chelsea have put this under threat, and the pressure is on Levy to land his man. Fail now, and he should prepare for criticism.
