The strongest part of Tottenham’s current squad is arguably their options at centre-back.
The partnership of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld is widely recognised as the strongest centre-back pairing in England, and Tottenham also have the likes of Eric Dier and Wimmer available to them to use at the back.
Dier has started regularly for Spurs this season, while Wimmer has always proven to be able cover when called upon.
The Austrian international is a reliable defender, and he still has a long-term contract at White Hart Lane.
Spurs also have up-and-coming centre-back Cameron Cater-Vickers threatening to break into their first-team, and it leaves questions being asked over where exactly Maguire would fit in at this moment in time.
The Hull City youngster has enjoyed an excellent campaign at the heart of Marco Silva’s side’s defence, and he looks to have a very bright future.
But Spurs have all the cover they need at centre-back, while Wimmer remains at the club, and the Lilywhites’ money would be better off spent elsewhere in the summer, given that Hull are unlikely to let Maguire go cheaply.
