Tottenham and Manchester United both want to sign Napoli midfielders.

Napoli’s impressive season to date has seen interest rise in their players and like Monaco last summer they are facing a battle to hang onto their stars.

Manchester United and Tottenham both have their eyes on the Serie A side and are both reported to be keen on midfielders.

The Red Devils are claimed to be pushing on with their attempts to sign Jorginho, with The Sun claiming the player’s agent travelled to Manchester for talks last month over a summer move.

Jorginho would replace Michael Carrick in United’s squad with the veteran expected to retire.

But this move would be affected by Tottenham’s plans to sign Napoli ace Amadou Diawara.

The Guinea born 20-year-old is one of Serie A’s most highly rated young players and Spurs were linked by Calcio Napoli 24 in January with a £33.5 million bid.

Tuttomercatoweb yesterday reported Spurs are set to ramp up their interest over the next few weeks and hope to close a summer deal for the defensive midfielder.

Diawara would have been a replacement for Jorginho in Napoli’s first choice XI, and selling him will make it tougher to allow Manchester United to sign their target too.

If United are really keen on Jorginho then they will need to strike a deal before Tottenham beat them to the punch.
