Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has been ruled out with injury in recent weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has insisted to the London Evening Standard that he was not frustrated with Mauricio Pochettino last night.

Sissoko was left out of Spurs’ starting line-up against Ajax, as a precaution over his fitness.

The French midfielder picked up a groin injury recently which threatened to keep him out of Tottenham’s Champions League semi-final.

However, Sissoko made it back to play for Spurs against Ajax yesterday and he put in a brilliant display.

Sissoko was arguably Tottenham’s Man of the Match, despite coming on after 30 minutes, following an injury to Jan Vertonghen.

Sissoko looked fresh when he entered the pitch, but the £30 million (BBC Sport) midfielder insists that he was playing through the pain barrier, and Pochettino was wise not to play him for 90 minutes.

“Frustrated? Yes. Not with the manager but because it was the semi-final of the Champions League,” Sissoko said, after Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat.

“Every player on the bench was frustrated not to play but I wasn’t 100 per cent fit to start.”

Sissoko was one of few Tottenham players who played to the top of their ability against Ajax.

Many of Sissoko’s Spurs teammates were not at their best, as Pochettino’s side fell to a damaging defeat.

Spurs now must win in Holland next week to have any chance of progressing to the final.
