West Ham United are due to take on Tottenham Hotspur in League Cup action in midweek.

West Ham United’s best piece of news of the entire weekend may have been delivered from an unlikely source in Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.

West Ham were beaten 3-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday evening, which has led to a lot of negative press coming out of the London Stadium.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is now under serious pressure, with his job seemingly on the line.

The Hammers are due to take on Spurs next, which looks to be an extremely tough fixture.

But West Ham may have been offered a reprieve by Pochettino, who has suggested that Harry Kane will not take part in the fixture.

He said to Football.London: “We have ahead many games, Wednesday then Manchester United at the weekend and Real Madrid. We finish the weekend with Crystal Palace.

“It’s important to know that he played two games for the national team before Bournemouth. It’s been a massive effort from him, but his performance in that way he’s so professional. But he’s not a machine and maybe Wednesday to rest.”

Kane limped off in Tottenham’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool yesterday, and his absence can only be seen as good news for West Ham.

Kane has netted a staggering 15 goals in his last 11 appearances for club and country, and is currently the most in-form striker in the country.

Spurs are likely to turn to Fernando Llorente in Kane’s absence, and although West Ham’s still face a significant challenge against Pochettino’s side, there is no doubting their task is made significantly easier through Kane’s absence.
