Should Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier be worried about Alexis Sanchez in midweek?

Kieran Trippier, like so many of his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates, didn’t cover himself in glory during Saturday’s shock 1-1 draw at Newport County in the FA Cup.

In fact, the 27-year-old isn’t exactly having a great season in the wake of Kyle Walker’s exit, and him and Serge Aurier have been rotated by manager Mauricio Pochettino for much of the campaign.

With Manchester United visiting Tottenham on Wednesday, is it crucial that Pochettino replaces Trippier with the Ivory Coast international?

In truth, Trippier could be ripped to shreds by a motivated Alexis Sanchez on what will be his Premier League debut for the Red Devils.

The former Arsenal star gave the Spurs right-back a torrid time at the Emirates back in October and by virtue of the fact that Sanchez – who signed a £500k-a-week deal at Old Trafford this week (The Sun) – will feel like he has something to prove, it doesn’t bode well for the former Burnley defender.

Going forward, Trippier is as good as any right-back in the Premier League, but Aurier, signed from PSG in August, is simply a better defender and far more capable of combating the tricky Chilean than Trippier.

In all likelyhood Pochettino will punt for the Ivorian, given how he has started their last three Premier League outings, but the Lilywhites boss has, as mentioned, rotated them quite often this season and doing it again would be a mistake at Wembley on Wednesday.
