Jan Vertonghen looks ahead to Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Arsenal in the North London derby at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has told the club’s official website that his side will have an advantage against Arsenal on Saturday.

And the advantage is that Spurs are playing at home.

Spurs will host their fierce North London rivals at White Hart Lane in a Premier League clash that could have a massive impact on the race for the top four.

Both Tottenham and Arsenal will head into the game on the back of comprehensive wins last weekend, and at the moment there is not much to choose between the two sides.

Except perhaps the fact that Tottenham are the home team, which Belgium international Vertonghen wants to make the most of.

“It’s always special and this is a huge game we need to win,” the 27-year-old told Tottenham’s official website. “We have the advantage of our home crowd and I hope we can make it happen.”

Is home advantage really an ‘advantage’?

On such an occasion, yes, playing at home is an advantage.

With the Tottenham fans now enjoying the team’s football, one can expect them to be firmly behind the team against North London rivals Arsenal on Saturday.

However, Arsenal are not a bad side when they play away from home, as the table below shows. In fact, the Gunners are fifth in the away league table, having picked up 18 points from 12 matches.

However, one stat that will encourage Tottenham is that Arsenal have conceded no fewer than 15 goals in those 12 games away from home in the Premier League.

An early goal for Spurs at White Hart Lane could make life very tough for Arsenal.
