Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane has told the Daily Mirror that Mike Dean said that he never saw the incident which led to strong penalty appeals against Newcastle United.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle and failed to produce a particularly inspiring display.

But they may have picked up a point if Kane had been given a spot kick, after he was brought down by Jamaal Lascelles.

There were huge appeals from Spurs, as Lascelles seemed to block Kane’s shot on goal illegally and bring him down.

However, Dean waved away their appeals and then the VAR review decided to stick with the referee’s original decision.

And Kane admits that Dean told him that he couldn’t see the incident at the time.

“Mike Dean said that he just didn’t know, he couldn’t see, so that’s where the VAR is there to help him out,” Kane said.

Kane was well placed to score if he hadn’t been brought down by Lascelles, but the Spurs striker failed to get a shot away.

That was arguably Tottenham’s brightest moment against Newcastle, in an otherwise abject display.

Despite holding much of the possession, Spurs struggled to break Steve Bruce’s side down and fell to a shock defeat.
