Tottenham Hotspur’s five forgotten men

A reminder of the talents of these Sunderland, Fulham, MK Don’s, Swindon, Swansea, Brighton and Nottingham Forest transfer targets.

With Huddlestone loaned out and Dawson on his way, the wonderment of how Spurs players seem to quite suddenly become unwanted and swiftly moved on is interesting.

Pavlyuchenko, Keane, Palacios, Hutton, Crouch and Defoe could qualify in this bracket in the past and now it seems there are at least 5 more players considered surplus to requirements, at least for this season, under Andre Villas Boas.

David Bentley

Signed for £15 million 4 years ago David Bentley was being touted as the natural successor to David Beckham’s England right midfield position. With his pinpoint crossing ability and ability to create space out wide he seemed a perfect addition to the burgeoning English youth ranks at Spurs. He has since struggled and has been out on loan with Birmingham and West Ham in a quest for 1st team football. Now at 27 he must move on to salvage his career.

Rumoured destinations: Fulham, MK Dons, MLS.

Jermaine Jenas

A £7 million signing from Newcastle in 2005 Jermaine Jenas was one of England’s hottest hopes in central midfield. Now 7 years on a 29 year old Jenas looks set to move on from The Lane and try and reinvigorate his career elsewhere. Last season saw him on loan at Aston Villa but he spent more time injured then he did playing and he will hope for a better spell, wherever he ends up, this term.

Rumoured destinations: Nottingham Forest, Sunderland.

Giovani Dos Santos

€6 million bought the highly rated Mexican to Spurs in 2008 from Barcelona and he had a promising opening pre-season. Since then however he has made little impact on the Spurs first team spending time out on loan at Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander. He has not reproduced his sparkling form for his country in England and despite fitting into a potential 4-3-3 he looks on the way out.

Rumoured destinations: Swansea, Sevilla, Inter Milan

Danny Rose

Burst onto the scene with THAT goal against Arsenal in 2010 but has since struggled to hold down a regular place in the Spurs starting line-up. A loan spell at Bristol City has followed along with a positional change to left back where he now finds competition from Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Jan Vertonghen. Will most likely be loaned out this season but should still remain a potential future star at Spurs.

Oh and here is THAT goal…’can you believe it’?

John Bostock

A mysterious one this as when he was signed by Spurs from Crystal Palace at 16 years old the future was supposed to be instantly great for the attacking midfield player. Destined for both domestic and international stardom; yet it has not quite happened for the now 20 year old Bostock; whilst loan spells at Brentford, Hull, Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon have had mixed success.

His career of course has barely started as at only 20 he still has plenty to offer and Spurs may send him out on a more secure year long loan deal this season to see if he has the potential to succeed at a Premier League level.

Rumoured destinations: Swindon Town and Brighton
