Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has confirmed to the Guardian that he won’t need an operation on his hand.

Alli broke a bone in Tottenham’s Champions League quarter final against Manchester City, and played with a cast for the rest of the campaign.

The England international was forced to play through the pain for Tottenham.

But Alli, who is on a £100,000-a-week contract at White Hart Lane (The Times), insists that after a summer’s worth a rest, he should recover from his injury problem naturally.

“Delph’s head broke my hand,” Alli said. “They said I could have had an operation when it first happened but I would have had to miss a few weeks. It’s not fully healed yet but this was the last game they said I’d need the cast. I won’t need the op, it’s healing well.”

Alli didn’t score as frequently as usual for Tottenham this past campaign, but he could be required to step up next term.

If Tottenham do lose Christian Eriksen, Alli may be required to play a more advanced role in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Alli has proven to be one of the most dangerous midfielders in the Premier League, and will be looking to hit the ground running next term, to silence some of his doubters.
