Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dele Alli has told the Telegraph how he wanted Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck’s shirt when he was a youngster.

MK Dons took on Manchester United in the League Cup while Welbeck was still with the Red Devils, and they pulled off a huge upset in the tie.

MK Dons won 4-0, and after the game Alli was keen to take Welbeck’s shirt, but the current Arsenal man refused.

“Me and Danny have a joke about it because I asked him for his shirt,” the £50,000-a-week star said (Independent).

“We speak about it now. He wouldn’t give it to me. I think he wanted to keep that shirt, but he was polite about it. He wasn’t nasty, he was really nice. I’ve still got my shirt. I wasn’t going to give him mine, I just wanted his.”

Tottenham’s Alli and Welbeck are now, of course, linking up with each other in the England squad at the World Cup.

The pair’s careers have rather gone in opposite directions since that cup game when they were both younger.

Alli has become a star for Tottenham, scoring regularly in the Premier League, and he is now a permanent starter in Gareth Southgate’s England side.

Welbeck, on the other hand, has struggled badly with injury in recent times, and the Arsenal man has made just one substitute appearance so far in Russia.
