Jan Vertonghen has picked up an ankle injury and the Austrian may be called upon.
Tottenham Hotspur’s excellent result against West Brom at the weekend did come at something of a cost.
Spurs defeated the Baggies 4-0 at White Hart Lane after a Harry Kane hat-trick inspired them to glory. Unfortunately, there was one glaring negative from the game. Jan Vertonghen picked up an ankle injury in the game which saw him limp out of action.

The Belgian is now expected to be absent for some time and Mauricio Pochettino’s faith in Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer is about to be tested.
It was reported by Express.de recently that Spurs had informed Bundesliga side FC Koln the Austrian international is going nowhere.
Wimmer’s former club had reportedly wanted to bring him in on loan until the end of the season, but it is now clear that Tottenham will not let him go anywhere – and luckily so.

Spurs’ recent form has been built on their utilisation of a three-man defence.
Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Vertonghen are the usual starters in such a system but Wimmer is now set to be used much more regularly again if Vertonghen’s injury is as bad as first feared.
Hopefully he can show the form he did around the same time last season during another injury absence for the Belgian.
