Davinson Sanchez joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017.
Sanchez started his professional club football career at Atletico and moved to Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2016.
Following his success at the Eredivisie outfit, the 22-year-old Colombia international central defender earned the move to Tottenham in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The London Evening Standard to be worth £40 million.
The youngster has established himself as an important player for Tottenham, and he has revealed that Spanish and European giants Barcelona wanted to sign him back when he was at Atletico.
Sanchez has also disclosed that Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal all wanted him when he was a teenager.
Sanchez told The Mirror: “Barcelona wanted me to play for their B team. But I wanted to stay and win the Copa Libertadores and after that I didn’t want to go down to a B team.
“I believed in my qualities and believed I could play in their first team. Ajax wanted me to be a part of their first team.
“It wasn’t just Barcelona that wanted me either. When I was 17 Sevilla came for me. At 18 Valencia, at 19 Villarreal before Barcelona.”
Future superstar
Sanchez has been superb for Tottenham and has established himself as an important player in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
The Colombian is only 22 years of age, and the youngster can only get better in the coming years.
According to WhoScored, the defender has made 14 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Tottenham so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.
