Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has a £25m release clause

It is looking increasingly likely that Toby Alderweireld will be a Tottenham Hotspur player next season, against the odds.
Alderweireld was widely expected to leave Tottenham at the end of last campaign, as he has just a year left on his contract, and there is a £25 million release clause built into his current deal.
With prices so inflated, Alderweireld looks as if he could be one of the bargain buys of the summer.
Most Tottenham supporters appeared to have resigned themselves to losing the Belgian after the Champions League final, as no new deal had been agreed.
However, as times passes, it looks more and more likely that Alderweireld will be lining up for Mauricio Pochettino’s side again next term.
The Beglian’s clause in his contract expires on July 26th, which means that teams now face a race against time if they are to get him.
Of course, Tottenham are not out the woods yet, but there has been a surprising lack of suitors for the experienced centre-back so far this summer.

If Alderweireld, who is currently on an £80,000-a-week deal (Spotrac), does stick around at Tottenham it will be a huge boost to the North London side.
Alderweireld remains one of the finest defenders in the Premier League, and finding his replacement would have been a difficult task for Pochettino this summer.
There is also hope that, with another year, Spurs may yet be able to agree a new deal with Alderweireld to keep him at White Hart Lane for the long-term.
