Tottenham were linked with Isco on deadline day.
Isco celebrates scoring for Real Madrid
Spanish newspaper AS reported on transfer deadline day that Tottenham Hotspur were attempting to sign Isco from Real Madrid.
The attacking midfielder decided against a switch to North London, electing to stay in the Spanish capital and try and stick it out.
But it is not going so well for the former Malaga man, once hailed as the next superstar of Spanish football.
Real Madrid’s Isco in action
The loyalty and determination Isco showed to Madrid has not been repaid by manager Zinedine Zidane, who has continued to overlook the 24-year-old.
He has not played a single minute of football since the deadline, and has played just 17 minutes in La Liga, coming back in August.
This is a backwards step on last season, where he made 21 starts, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.
Spurs were linked with a loan move for Isco, but given the way his trajectory at the club is going, a permanent exit may be his best bet.
Isco
He was not even named in Real’s Champions League squad in midweek, a bleak sign for his future at the club.
If Tottenham renew their interest then they are likely to have success, with Spanish newspaper SPORT reporting Zidane will not stand in Isco’s way if he seeks to leave.
He is a player worth Spurs splashing out on despite their recent spending on Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, and could potentially flourish under Pochettino’s management.
