Tottenham Hotspur reportedly wanted to sign Frenkie de Jong from Ajax in the summer transfer window.

According to The Daily Star, Ajax value Frenkie de Jong at £71 million, and this surely destroys Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing the midfielder.
The report has claimed that Tottenham tried to sign De Jong from Ajax in the summer transfer window for £25m.
The Dutch giants have now increased their price to £71m, according to the report, which means that Spurs are not going to be able to make a deal, especially with Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona also claimed to be interested in the 21-year-old Netherlands international midfielder.
Tottenham did not sign a single player in the summer transfer window, and the North London outfit’s record signing is Davinson Sanchez for just over £40m.

As reported by The Guardian, Spurs paid Ajax as much as £42m for the 22-year-old Colombia international central defender in the summer of 2017.
With Tottenham moving into a new stadium, it is hard to see the Premier League club spent £71m on a 21-year-old, who will probably get more wages at City, United or Barcelona anyway.
