Tottenham Hotspur attacker Aaron Lennon says his injury is not serious.

Aaron Lennon lasted only one half as Tottenham beat Brighton in the Capital One Cup.

The winger has made only one start in the Premier League all season, so will have welcomed the opportunity against the Championship side.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino showed his trust in the 27-year-old, by handing him the captaincy, and his early withdrawal was not part of the plan, instead due to injury.

Lennon clearly feels it is not a serious problem, but one which places further doubt on his chances of starting in the Premier League against Aston Villa on Sunday.

From that perspective it is a missed chance for him, but he will clearly take heart from getting the captain’s armband.

His replacement, Erik Lamela scored Tottenham’s opening goal in the 2-0 win, with Harry Kane scoring the second. Spurs face Newcastle at home in the quarter-finals.
