Mauricio Pochettino comments on ‘different agendas’ at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two side Colchester United on Tuesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino has stated that he ‘knew’ from pre-season that Tottenham would be in a ‘tough situation’ as he worryingly claimed that there are ‘different agendas’ in the dressing room after they were knocked of the EFL Cup last night.

It was a humiliating defeat for Spurs and one of the worst performances by a Pochettino side, who suffered an early exit at hands of League Two side Colchester United, who knocked them out on penalties.

Both on the field, and off the field, there seems to be a lack of stability at Tottenham, with poor results and performances coming on the back of players seemingly wanting to leave the club this summer without anything materialising, as reported by BBC Sport.

Following that damaging defeat to Colchester, Pochettino was pretty honest when talking about that game and the squad he currently has at his disposal.

“I think we talked a lot in pre-season,” Pochettino told Football London. “We have experience in football and it’s so important the feelings were how I explained in pre-season. It’s about that we knew or I knew it would be a tough situation.

“When you have an unsettled squad always it’s difficult and you lose time and then you need time to recover the time you lose. That’s where we are. Maybe our performances are good but you need this extra, which is mental, connection, it’s energy to be all together, not to have different agendas in the squad.

“We need time again to build that togetherness and that’s what you need when you are competing at this level.”

This squad isn’t too different from that one that was shining bright three years ago, but since then a lot has changed with contracts and the form of certain players.

Dele Alli, who started the EFL Cup tie, looks the shadow of the player that was first brought to the club from MK Dons, where he couldn’t stop finding the back of the net.

It remains to be seen where this will lead to because it wouldn’t be a surprise if there are more downs than ups for Spurs in these coming months and weeks.
