Both teams deserved to reach the final in Madrid, and after finishing in the Premier League’s top-four last time out, some more comfortable than others, they will be aiming for that elusive English crown ahead of the new campaign.
There’s no doubt that Liverpool have quite a big edge over Spurs – there 97 points last season to Tottenham’s 71 points is proof of that, but the transfer market can swing things.
Spanish outlet ABC Blogs have claimed that Tottenham hold an advantage over Liverpool in their race to sign Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos.
It is said that the North London club are more willing than the Merseyside club to take him up on a loan deal with an option to buy.
Simply put, Tottenham will prove their title credentials if they can beat last season’s Premier League’s runners-up to the signing of the Madrid midfielder.
If Spurs are to put silverware in their cabinet in this coming season then they need to pay the big money for the big players, which they are doing in Tanguy Ndombele’s case, and they need to beat their rivals to key signings, which they could do with Ceballos.
Both Tottenham and Liverpool are in need of some spark in the middle of the park, and Madrid’s man in the middle can provide that for whichever club he were to join.
Spurs, perhaps need it more than Jurgen Klopp’s side because the futures of certain players is yet to be decided. Plus, the Reds arguably boast a better attacking line than their English counterparts.
Either way, the transfer window is so far proving to be going well for Mauricio Pochettino and his team as they try to make even more signings ahead of the new season.
