Tottenham Hotspur should give up playing Heung-Min Son at wing-back.

Tottenham have coped admirably well with Danny Rose’s long term injury absence, which has been far worse than first feared.

But the worst trend to come out of Rose’s injury has been head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s experiment with Heung-Min Son.

£22 million attacker Son was selected at wing-back against Swansea City, just as he was in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

Against Chelsea the results were grim, with Spurs conceding four times including a penalty given away by Son.

Swansea did not possess the attacking threat to test Spurs or Son, and they kept a clean sheet – but from an offensive standpoint the South Korean star was wasted.

Son is a player Spurs were happy to play up front last season, stepping in when Harry Kane was injured instead of Vincent Janssen.

He scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, and playing him at wing-back is a waste of his talents.

Just days earlier he had scored from an attacking role in a win over Dortmund, but the return of Dele Alli to the starting line up pushed him out to wing-back.

Pochettino may simply have to choose between the two of Alli and Son, and against a stronger opponent, Son’s defensively weakness at wing-back would also be exposed.
