Tottenham Hotspur allowed Everton to sign Micheal Keane from Burnley, without challenging them.
Pochettino had reportedly identified Keane as a potential target to improve his Spurs squad, but no offer was made to Burnley.
Everton, instead, decided to snap up Keane for a fee which could rise to £30 million.
Keane penned a contract at Everton yesterday, but it is hard to see why Spurs didn’t at least try to rival them for the centre-back’s signature.
Tottenham are also said to have Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson on their wishlist – but there is hardly any difference in their price tags and Keane.
Swansea and Boro both want big money for their star defenders, meaning Spurs are unlikely to save any cash by not moving for Keane.
Indeed, Keane is clearly the most experienced and proven of any of the defenders on Pochettino’s transfer wishlist – and would surely have been an excellent addition for Spurs.
Instead, Tottenham simply let their reported transfer target move to Everton, and they could look back on that decision with regret, if Keane does impress at Goodison Park.
