This weekend sees Tottenham Hotspur taking on West Ham United in arguably one of the goals of the weekend.

The two sides have had vastly different starts to the campaign, with Spurs currently fifth in the table and the Hammers down in 17^th.

Both are desperate for a derby win for various reasons. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are keen to end a run of seven games in all competitions without a win while Slaven Bilic and his men are desperate to pull away from the relegation zone.

Both are heavily reliant on the talent they have in attacking midfield, namely Christian Eriksen and Dimitri Payet.

So who has been the better player so far this season? Here’s what the stats have to say.

Eriksen has been the better passer, posting more accurate passes per game, 40.2 compared to 35.6 and more successful final third passes per game, 17 compared to 15.4.

Payet is registering more key passes per game, though, 4.4 compared to 2.5, while the pair are level when it comes to passing accuracy.

It is the Frenchman who tops the assist charts, as he has managed four compared to Eriksen’s tally of three.

The Danish midfielder has been the bigger threat, posting more shots per game and more shots on target per game, although Payet’s solo strike sees him come out on top in terms of goals scored.

A win for Eriksen though, as he tops five of the eight key areas analysed. Tottenham Hotspur will certainly be hoping he comes out on top in Saturday’s big game.
