Paul Merson has predicted Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur to lose to Dean Smith’s Aston Villa this weekend, as quoted on SportsKeeda.

Tottenham will take on Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

Former Arsenal and Villa star Merson believes that the Villans will pick up all three points from the encounter courtesy of a 2-1 win.

Merson wrote on SportsKeeda: “Aston Villa were really good against Manchester United. They deserved to get a positive result and they did as Bruno Fernandes missed a stoppage-time penalty to restore parity at Old Trafford. Ultimately, the game will boil down to the version of Tottenham Hotspur that turns up.

“Will it be the side that got absolutely rolled over by Chelsea and Arsenal, or will it be the team that gave Chelsea a game in the first 45 minutes and also beat Manchester City on the opening day of the Premier League season? If Spurs hit the front in the opening exchanges, they are a hard team to play against.

“I like Villa and after careful consideration, I fancy them to win this one 2-1. The way Spurs are playing now and their attitude scares me. If they don’t change, I can’t see them getting anything from this game. A loss would put serious pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo, especially with the international break coming up after the Premier League weekend. This is a massive game for Spurs and the Portuguese manager, it has to be said.”

A footnote added: “Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Aston Villa”.

Who will win Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa?

Tottenham won in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, but let’s face it, they were always going to ease past NS Mura at home.

Spurs suffered a defeat in the North London derby against Arsenal last weekend and needed penalties to get past Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham have also lost 3-0 to Chelsea and Crystal Palace in the Premier League this season.

Nuno’s side are clearly struggling defensively, and with Harry Kane finding it hard at the other end in the Premier League, Villa will know that they have a good chance.

However, Tottenham won the in Europa Conference League on Thursday, and that will give the players some confidence.

Moreover, Kane scored a hat-trick after coming on as a substitute.

Playing at home will also be an advantage for Tottenham, who will be determined to head into the international break on a positive note.
