Gary Neville has criticised Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on Sky Sports Premier League (4:45pm, January 15, 2023) for his role in Bukayo Saka’s goal for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the opening minutes of the North London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

England international forward Saka put Arsenal in the lead against North London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Saka ran onto a long ball down the right and then cut inside Ryan Sessegnon quite easily.

The youngster then shot from a very tight angle.

The ball did appear to take a very slight deflection off of Sessegnon, and Tottenham goalkeeper Lloris could not save it.

It went down as an own goal.

Lloris is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, and Spurs fans would have expected the Frenchman to save the shot at his near post.

It was essentially hit straight at him.

Earlier on in the game, Lloris had made a bad mistake as well.

Former Manchester United defender Neville was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports, and he was not impressed by Lloris.

Neville said: “I am pretty sure that’s a deflection, but Lloris, that’s just so poor. He started shakily with his feet, Lloris, he is followed it on now with his hands.

“Some may say that there is a deflection there that may potentially cause a problem, but he has to deal with that. It’s not good enough.
