Mauricio Pochettino has decided against extending Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente’s contract at White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino’s decision not to extend Fernando Llorente’s Tottenham Hotspur contract has put Daniel Levy under more pressure to go out and buy a striker this summer.

The Daily Mail have reported that Tottenham have decided against activating the clause in Llorente’s contract, which would have extended his stay at White Hart Lane for another year.

Llorente is now almost certain to leave Spurs in the summer, and that means Tottenham desperately will need to buy a striker this summer.

The safe option for Pochettino would have been to retain Llorente for another year.

The Spaniard has proven in the Champions League that he can still make an impact off the substitutes’ bench.

However, Pochettino has been calling for Tottenham to act more ambitiously in the transfer market this summer, and his decision to let Llorente go backs his words up.

Spurs are now under serious pressure to go out and find a goalscorer, who can provide back-up to Harry Kane, otherwise they will be left desperately short.

Tottenham’s only other recognised senior striker at the club is Vincent Janssen, but he has never shown any indication that he can score with regularity in England.

And Pochettino has rather forced Levy’s hand by opting not to extend Llorente’s deal at White Hart Lane.
