A trio of Tottenham Hotspur players have sent a message to Ajax wishing them success in this evening’s Europa League final.

Ajax face Manchester United in the final in Stockholm, at the end of a gruelling season for both clubs.

Spurs trio Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld all formerly played for Ajax, leaving separately in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

They sent a message out on social media wishing the Dutch side the best of luck.

The trio sent the message from their flight to Hong Kong for a post-season friendly, with Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad reporting their words of, ‘Good luck boys’.

For Manchester United this is a game the Red Devils can’t afford to lose. If they do they face another season in the Europa League, which like this season would hamper their Premier League ambitions as well as meaning a financial shortfall from missing out on the Champions League.

Ajax are already in the Champions League next season and while this could see them play with less intensity, it could also give them more freedom against a potentially nervous Manchester United.

Tottenham’s ex-Ajax trio can sit back and enjoy, knowing they have already secured Champions League qualification for next season.
