Ajax are not playing down Neres’ fee any longer, with Tottenham among sides lurking.

David Neres of Ajax looks on during the Dutch Eredivisie match between Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord at Amsterdam ArenA on April 2, 2017 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

David Neres has been one of the stars of the Eredivisie season, and his sensational form has attracted interest from the Premier League.

Calciomercato report Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for his signature, as they seek to follow up Davinson Sanchez’s successful move from Ajax.

Winger Neres has scored nine goals already this campaign, and Ajax are not keen to sell.

He only joined last January, for a cut price £10 million.

But even at this price, Ajax felt they overpaid, with sporting director Marc Overmars telling Goal Netherlands: “We just paid too much, we know that, in relation to other transfers, but we had been chasing Neres for a year already.

“We saw a clear reinforcement in him, and besides, we sold so much money that we could also go beyond normal.”

Right now, Ajax will be feeling they have a bargain. Calciomercato’s latest report says Ajax already value Neres at £22 million, and this valuation will continue to increase if his form continues.

Tottenham ended up paying £42 million for Davinson Sanchez last summer, a club record amount, and while a move for Neres could be inspired too, it will likely cost them, despite Overmars’ comments earlier this year.
