Tottenham Hotspur transfer target David Neres has been compared to Coutinho.

David Neres of Ajax looks on during the Dutch Eredivisie match between Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord at Amsterdam ArenA on April 2, 2017 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Ajax sensation David Neres, according to Calcio Mercato.

Neres joined Ajax last January and has become one of European football’s hottest properties after an explosive start to the season.

He has eight goals and nine assists to date, and his form has Spurs considering another raid on Ajax after their impressive deal to sign Davinson Sanchez in the summer.

Neres hails from Brazil and joined Ajax from Sao Paulo, and has been compared to Liverpool sensation Coutinho.

Brazilian journalist Paulo Freitas told Ajax Showtime earlier this year that he has high expectations for Neres.

He said: “He belongs to the best players of Sao Paulo. In a few games he has played at the highest level, and made a huge impression.

“I think he can reach the level of Coutinho, although I do not see him growing to the level of say a Neymar.”

Even if emulating Neymar might be out of reach, matching Coutinho’s impact for Liverpool would be a scenario Spurs fans would surely take.

Coutinho has been a tremendous player for Liverpool since joining from Inter Milan.

So much so that Barcelona were trying to buy him for £140 million this summer, the Mirror reported.

Whatever Tottenham end up paying for Neres, could end up being a snip.
