Tottenham midfielder outperformed Liverpool ace for England.
Harry Winks made his England debut on Sunday and instantly looked the part in a win over Lithuania.
The Tottenham Hotspur talent was the Three Lions’ brightest midfielder, completing 96 per cent of his passes and creating three goalscoring chances.
His performance was a bright spot in an otherwise drab friendly, but it also highlighted the uninspiring play of Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.
In one match, Winks had one more memorable game than Henderson has ever had for England in 36 appearances.
The Liverpool midfielder has struggled to make an impression for the Three Lions, and should not be a guaranteed starter for Gareth Southgate’s side next summer.
Winks has put himself in the mix, and his performance should have been enough to guarantee him further call-ups.
Henderson had more of the ball than Winks, making 10 more touches, but the problem was he struggled to do anything effective with it.
He has no goals for England in his 36 games, and last night was another example of him failing to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
Winks, seven years his junior, put in a performance to be proud of and managed to excite supporters in a way Henderson has not been able to, and may just not have in him at this point.
