Tottenham Hotspur taking no chance over ‘dodgy lasagnes’

Six year ago Spurs lost on fourth place when a host of their players were struck by food poisoning and missed the weekend’s final game.

That loss to West Ham proved to be crucial, allowing Arsenal to leapfrog Martin Jol’s side into the Champions League spots.

This weekend with third the most coveted spot, Tottenham are taking no chances.

The Express reports: “The Spurs players will train tomorrow and eat lunch at their Chigwell base before spending the night at home. They will then travel to White Hart Lane separately and eat a pre-match meal prepared by the club chef in the players’ lounge.”

Let’s remind ourselves of just how Tottenham’s season folded in 2006 with a report from the Telegraph: “10 first-team Tottenham players, including their leading scorer, Robbie Keane, and Michael Carrick were violently sick with food poisioning. For hours it seemed that Tottenham, who had a squad of 17, were not even sure they could field 11 players at West Ham.

“from about 1am, virtually Tottenham’s entire team were violently sick: Davids, Tainio, Keane, Dawson, Carrick, Lennon, Cerny, the reserve goalkeeper, Davenport, Barnard and Lee. Carrick, the most ill, was hardly able to walk.”

We can’t blame them for taking no chances this time around it could be a huge weekend for the club, even thought their fate is directly out of their hands.

Arsenal will got get an easy ride at the Hawthorns, and Spurs must be ready to pounce by taking all three points at home to Fulham.

They failed to take advantage of a slip last week, drawing at Villa when they needed to win, which has summed up the second half of their season, but we’re sure Spurs will hold up their half of the bargain this time out.

Perhaps they should send a dodgy chef to Arsenal’s team hotel to take care of the other half?
