Recent dealings with Stevenage make Tottenham favourites to land defender.

Stevenage Town defender Ben Wilmot has been earning rave reviews in his short career so far and Premier League teams are taking notice.

The Sun reported last year that Tottenham and Liverpool had sent scouts to watch him in action, and the paper claimed in January that Spurs were in pole position.

Smart dealing since on Tottenham’s part has surely moved to help their cause.

Tottenham loaned promising youngster Luke Amos to Stevenage in January and he has made impressive strides for the club.

Amos was described as ‘terrific’ by his manager Darren Sarll earlier this month after scoring his first goal.

The midfielder faces a nigh on impossible task to get into the Tottenham team and despite recently extending his contract until 2019, could have to leave to establish himself.

Stevenage would certainly be keen on acquiring him permanently and working him into a swap deal for Wilmot is very viable.

Tottenham have a good rapport with Stevenage, frequently playing under-23 games at the club’s Lamex Stadium.

18-year-old Wilmot has played 14 games this season for Stevenage.

He has a lot to prove still as he seeks to make a name for himself, and interest from Liverpool and Tottenham is big encouragement for him.

Of the two, it would seem that Spurs have the strongest chance of doing a deal.
