Has Mousa Dembele’s Tottenham Hotspur future just been given a boost?

According to a report from Spanish newspaper Superdeporte, Valencia will take up the option to sign midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia on a permanent basis.
Sky Sports claimed last week that Tottenham Hotspur had identified the French powerhouse – on loan from Inter Milan – as an ideal replacement for Mousa Dembele.
But if reports from Spain are true then Tottenham must either keep looking, or the big Belgian should give them a reason to abandon their search completely.

The 30-year-old, who joined for £15 million from Fulham in 2012, hasn’t looked at his imperious best in Spurs’ midfield this season but now he has all the incentive he needs to rediscover his best form.
With his phenomenal upper body strength and bursts of acceleration to glide past opponents, Dembele, labelled a “genius” by Mauricio Pochettino back in April, is an outstanding midfielder on his day and he certainly has the ability to force Tottenham to call off their search for his replacement.

He has increased competition in the form of Harry Winks, and Moussa Sissoko to a lesser extent, but neither are as influential for the Lilywhites from that role.
His contract expires in 18 months but if Dembele can get back to the level that Spurs fans and Pochettino expect then it would go a long way to seeing him get a second wind in North London.
