Lee Hendrie has said on Sky Sports News (12:34pm, December 26, 2021) that Everton and Newcastle United should try to sign Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Tottenham winger Bergwijn would flourish at Everton or Newcastle if he plays regularly for the Toffees or the Magpies.

The former Aston Villa midfielder made the comments while responding to Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling when he asked him if Everton or Newcastle should sign the £27 million Dutchman (BBC Sport).

Hendrie said about Steven Bergwijn potentially moving to Everton or Newcastle: “100%, 100%. I am not doubting his ability at all, probably playing week in and week out would give him that stability, that confidence that we do see the best out of Bergwijn.”

Steven Bergwijn to Everton?

There are no credible reports claiming that Everton are interested in signing Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham in the January transfer window.

However, we have covered media reports claiming that the relationship between Spurs head coach Antonio Conte and Bergwijn is not great.

The Netherlands international winger is struggling for playing time and has been linked with Ajax.

In our opinion, a loan move to Everton would benefit Steven Bergwijn and the Toffees.

Yes, Everton have quality players out wide, but the 24-year-old would make Rafael Benitez’s side better.

Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have been playing well for Everton this season, but there is always room for better players.
