Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a loan approach from Ajax for winger Steven Bergwijn amid question marks over his role under Antonio Conte.
The Times claim that Ajax have made an offer to take Bergwijn on loan until the end of the season.
David Neres looks set to leave Ajax and the Amsterdam giants are desperate to get another winger in this month.
Bergwijn has been their top target for some time now. The 24-year-old hails from Amsterdam and spent two years in the Ajax youth ranks.
Since leaving PSV Eindhoven in January 2020, Bergwijn hasn’t quite become a Tottenham starter.
Since Antonio Conte’s arrival as Tottenham boss, Bergwijn has only played 100 minutes for Spurs.
That has resulted in many believing that Conte just doesn’t fancy Bergwijn, who cost Tottenham £25million two years ago.

Conte did state last month that he thinks Bergwijn can ‘do much better’, seemingly feeling the Dutchman isn’t at his best.
The decision to reject Ajax’s loan bid suggests that Tottenham do still have high hopes for Bergwijn and are committed to developing him.
Ajax’s bid also comes at a terrible time. Tottenham have just lost Son Heung-min to injury for around six weeks, meaning they can’t exactly lose an attacker.
It would now be a surprise to see Tottenham let Bergwijn go this month, unless Ajax come back with an absurd cash bid.
