Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij is ‘lukewarm’ to the club’s new contract offer as Tottenham Hotspur eye a move to sign him.
Tuttomercatoweb claim that Inter have presented a two-year contract offer to their Dutch defender.
Inter know that De Vrij is out of contract at the end of the season and want to keep him.
The plan is seemingly to get De Vrij locked down before January 1st, when he can sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere.
Yet De Vrij is so far unsure about signing that new deal, seemingly open to offers from elsewhere.
That could be music to the ears of Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur with Spurs keen to snap him up in 2023.
De Vrij would surely fancy joining Conte at Tottenham
Tottenham may now feel a certain level of confidence regarding a move for De Vrij.
CMW claim that Antonio Conte has already spoken to De Vrij about a possible switch to North London.
The former Feyenoord star worked with Antonio Conte at Inter Milan and a reunion could be very appealing to him given their relationship.
Speaking in December 2021, De Vrij hailed Conte as a manager who has ‘always won’ during his career.
Earlier in 2021, De Vrij hailed Conte as ‘passionate and demanding’, adding that you understand his success as soon as you work with him.
The pair won the Serie A title together in 2021 and it’s clear that De Vrij has huge respect for Conte, so joining forces again makes some sense.
De Vrij turns 31 in February though so wouldn’t be a long-term option for Tottenham, more of an Ivan Perisic-type signing in terms of a veteran player snapped up in a bargain reunion with Conte.
Other Premier League clubs are likely to be interested but Tottenham are surely looking at De Vrij’s contract situation with intent as they look to boost Conte’s defensive options.
