Tottenham Hotspur want Stefan de Vrij and his agent hasn’t exactly ruled out the prospect of the defender leaving Inter Milan in 2023.
De Vrij faces a huge decision in the coming weeks and months.
The Dutch defender is out of contract at the end of the season and he may decide to leave Inter on a free transfer.
There is scope for a pre-contract agreement elsewhere in January or Inter may simply sell before De Vrij goes for nothing.
Tottenham appear to be keeping very close tabs on De Vrij.
CMW claim that Antonio Conte has already spoken to De Vrij about a possible switch to North London.
Conte and De Vrij worked together at Inter and the prospect of a reunion looks to be strong.
Tuttomercatoweb have even claimed that De Vrij is ‘lukewarm’ on the idea of staying at Inter, seemingly indicating that an exit is on the cards.
Agent doesn’t rule out De Vrij joining Tottenham
Agent Federico Pastorello has now told Tuttomercatoweb that he thinks De Vrij can play for any great European club.
Pastorello was being asked specifically about a move to Tottenham but he remained coy, failing to rule out a move but opening the door to other clubs.
Pastorello praised De Vrij as ‘extremely intelligent’ and noted that his decision on his next contract won’t just be about money, but many other aspects.
“De Vrij can play for all the top European clubs,” said Pastorello. “He has great experience and a high level tactical understanding. He’s an extremely intelligent boy and you can clearly see this on the pitch too. He’s a player who can play anywhere. At the end of the year there will be many top clubs looking for a centre-back, there will be plenty of opportunities, but his evaluations will concern not only the contractual aspect, but also many elements,” he added.
De Vrij turns 31 in February, so maybe isn’t a long-term answer for Tottenham but could at least give Spurs a quality centre back for two or three years.
Look at Ivan Perisic; he left Inter at the end of his contract for Tottenham and is a key player for Conte as he approaches 34.
Signing De Vrij would be a very similar move to Perisic and it looks like Pastorello is at least open to discussing a potential in 2023.
