Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela tops two unwanted stats

Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has key areas to work on in his game.

Tottenham’s Erik Lamela is finally getting a run of games under his belt in the Premier League after an injury hit first season.

And the Argentine has impressed with three assists in six matches to date.

Yet it is not all positive for the talented but raw 22-year-old, for there are areas he needs to work on, and two in which he tops the league, and not from a positive perspective.

Lamela has been dispossessed more times than any other player in the Premier League, and has overrun more dribbles than any other player, barring Romelu Lukaku, who has also done so on seven occasions.

Lamela has also attempted more dribbles than any other player who has given away the ball more, so it’s clear to see that is a factor in his failure to retain possession.

He played all 90 minutes at the weekend against Arsenal, setting up Nacer Chadli for his opener, so it’s certainly hard to be too critical of a player who has the potential to become one of the Premier League’s very best.

Tottenham however only managed a paltry 31 per cent possession in the match at The Emirates, a figure the club cannot plan on settling for on a weekly basis.

If they are to avoid this, Lamela, and Emmanuel Adebayor who himself has given the ball away 14 times, placing himself in the ‘top’ five this season, need to work on not turning the ball over to the opposition and putting their side under increased pressure, and become more efficient.
