The deal came amid news of interest from the likes of Juventus and left Spurs fans over the moon that their mercurial midfielder had signed a new deal at the club.

Eriksen is currently away on international duty with the Danish national team. He spoke to Tipsbladet this week about his decision to sign a new deal at Spurs.

He made it clear that he believes Spurs can go on to be the top team in the Premier League and also explained how happy he was to be competing in the Champions League yet again:

“I wanted to extend because I feel that we can take the next step, which is to be at the top.

“In the past Tottenham have been a middle to top club, but with the players we have in the squad, our way of playing and a new stadium, then there is a possibility that we may be at the top.

“Now we play also in the Champions League, as we did in the past, and that is something I like. I personally had no doubt that I wanted to stay and be a part of the building.”

Eriksen started the current campaign slowly, but since signing a new deal he has been back to his best and has helped Spurs to their best ever Premier League start.

If they can continue that form, then Eriksen will be fully justified in his decision to remain at Spurs in the long-term.
