Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has plunged his Spurs future into doubt after revealing that he wants to play at the highest level, while heavily implying he wouldn’t turn down a move to Barcelona, as reported by Ekstra Bladet but translated by Sport Witness.
The 25-year-old has had a sensational season for Spurs, scoring nine goals and registering 17 assists in 48 games in all competitions, becoming a vital – arguably indispensable – part in the way Tottenham play in the process.

In fact, Eriksen’s form has been so good that Barcelona have been linked with a move for the playmaker, and Eriksen’s agent was on hand to deny any possible transfer and play down any rumours involving both parties at the start of May, as reported by ESPN.
However, Eriksen has now opened a huge can of worms by claiming on international duty that he wants to play at the highest level and would move clubs to ensure that, while also refusing to deny that he would turn down Barcelona if they came calling.

“I still have a contract with Tottenham a few more years,” Eriksen said to Ekstra Bladet, as translated by Sport Witness. “There are always rumours about footballers…Barcelona are a great club and I don’t think there are many who say no to Barcelona.
“In the future I see myself at the highest level. That’s what I dream about. It can be in about two to three years. It may be at another club or it could be Tottenham if we have come all the way up.”

Supporters will be holding on to the fact that Eriksen has said he sees a possibility that he will make it to the top level with Spurs.
But the news isn’t likely to go down very well with the Tottenham fanbase, who could be fully entitled to viewing Eriksen’s comments as encouraging Barcelona to make a move for his services, at a time where Spurs desperately need to retain their key players if they are to challenge for the title again next season.
Spurs are already losing one of their key players in Kyle Walker to Manchester City for a £40m fee, as reported by the Daily Star, but whereas the feeling is that Walker is very replaceable, the same cannot be said about Eriksen.
