Tottenham Hotspur are ‘really close’ to signing Pedro Porro – but there is an issue over whether he can play in Sporting’s cup final this weekend.
Tottenham have been chasing Porro throughout the January window with Antonio Conte keen to land a quality right wing back.
Sporting have been driving a hard bargain and why wouldn’t they? Porro has a €45million (£40million) release clause in his contract and has racked up 11 assists this season.
The current noises are encouraging though as Tottenham accelerated talks to sign Porro on Wednesday.
Fabrizio Romano reports that there are now ‘positive feelings’ for Tottenham after holding meetings ‘all day’ in an effort to sign Porro.
Romano notes that the deal is now ‘really close’ and only ‘crucial details’ are between Tottenham and a big new signing.
That all sounds very promising for Tottenham but the Portuguese press have highlighted one major sticking point…

Tottenham still face a hurdle for Pedro Porro
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report that an ‘issue on the table’ is Porro’s participation in Sporting’s next game.
Sporting play in the Taca da Liga final – basically the League Cup final – against rivals Porto on Saturday night.
Sporting seemingly want to delay the transfer until after that game, not only giving them a better chance of winning the trophy but also allowing Porro to say goodbye.
You can imagine that Tottenham don’t really like that idea.
Imagine if Porro gets injured in that game, leaving Tottenham’s transfer plans in tatters after so much effort.
There isn’t much time until the deadline and Tottenham would hate to be forced into scrambling around for a new target at the last minute.
Porro has already agreed terms on a deal with Tottenham until 2028 but there are clearly still some issues to iron out.
After signing Arnaut Danjuma on Wednesday, Tottenham could really end the window with a bang by securing top target Porro too – but they need to try and come to an agreement with Sporting over this big cup final problem.
