Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min is a big deal in his home country of South Korea, but he’s lagging some way behind BTS.
Even if you just judge on social media followers – which many would in this day and age – Son is nowhere near BTS.
Son has 5.1million followers on Instagram. Viewed as arguably the greatest Asian player to ever play in the Premier League, Son has been flying the flag for South Korea in England for over six years now.
The official BTS Instagram page has a staggering 50.3million followers.
Football fans, by and large, may not be all that tuned into BTS, boy bands or k-pop, but BTS are a big deal.
Tottenham are popular enough in South Korea already thanks to Son’s stardom, but public links with BTS? That’s only going to help.

On Tuesday night, Tottenham posted a video of Son and BTS sending each other messages.
“I will always support you and and try my best to be a good influence like you,” said Son, giving his backing to the group.
BTS then showed that they have all been sent Tottenham shirts with Son on the back, thanking him for the gift.
RM – one of the members of BTS – urged Son to continue being a ‘world class’ player, something Tottenham fans would absolutely support.
“Thank you once again for being so thoughtful and for giving us these shirts, thank you very much Son! Of course he is already doing a fantastic job but we wish that you continue to thrive as a world class player.”
Son has been lighting up the Premier League like dynamite in recent times, and that doesn’t look like stopping any time soon.
