Tottenham Hotspur showed ‘increasingly insistent pressure’ on Inter Milan in their pursuit of Milan Skriniar, but no deal was done in the end.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Fabio Paratici and co were relentless in their attempts to sign Skriniar.
No offers reached more than €35million (£30million), so Inter ultimately decided Skriniar was going nowhere.
Inter were in financial trouble, but ended up selling Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea to balance the books.
Romero and Skriniar would be a dream for Tottenham
Tottenham secured a big defensive signing over the summer by luring Cristian Romero to North London from Atalanta.
Romero was one of Serie A’s top centre backs last season, with Skriniar up there too having won the title with Inter.
Imagine them together. Romero and Skriniar would be a huge upgrade for Tottenham, giving them a partnership to build around for years to come.
Maybe Romero was signed instead of Skriniar given the huge outlay needed to sign both, but Paratici will surely have designs on another centre back arriving in upcoming transfer windows.

Mourinho loves Skriniar
Paratici appears to be a huge fan of Skriniar, and so was former Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho wanted Tottenham to sign Skriniar for him in 2020, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Mourinho ‘loves’ the Slovakian.
Tottenham didn’t give up on Skriniar, and may keep tabs on Inter Milan’s financial situation ahead of a possible move in the future.
