According to Bild, Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Mats Hummels from Bayern Munich, but it would be a bizarre signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Hummels’ agent is said to have held talks with Spurs, with Pochettino looking to add the German international.

However, Hummels signing would go completely against Tottenham’s transfer policy and there must be questions over whether he would be a worthwhile addition.

Spurs have tended to buy youngsters with great potential, rather than experienced players in recent times, and they have enjoyed great success with that strategy.

Hummels’ form in recent times has been concerning to say the least. The experienced centre-back endured a terrible World Cup and he has been forced out of the team at Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old appears to be in the twilight of his career, yet his wage demands would be high.

And, given Tottenham’s wage structure, bringing Hummels in would be a bizarre decision.

Tottenham already have a talented collection of centre-backs, with Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez potential options for the future.

And if Spurs scrapped their long-term transfer strategy to bring in Hummels it would be a strange transfer move.
