Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in signing Jordi Alba from Barcelona.
Tottenham have tended to buy players with the potential to become stars, rather than ready-made superstars.
But Alba would break the mould for Tottenham, and would immediately become the best left-back in England if he was to arrive.
Alba is the starting left-back for Spain and Barcelona, which says something about the quality he possesses.
At Spurs, he would offer pace and dynamism down their left-hand side, and would surely be an upgrade on their current options.
A fit Danny Rose is arguably one of the best left-backs in England, but he is not in the same league as Alba, and although Ben Davies has enjoyed a great season, the same could be said for him.
The potential to see Alba bombing down the left-hand side, and linking up with Tottenham’s attacking talent, should excite all supporters of the north London club.
And if Spurs did manage to bring Alba to England, he would be a massively impressive addition to their squad.
