Tottenham Hotspur should take another look at Wilmar Barrios, after Victor Wanyama’s injury.
Last week, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Victor Wanyama left Tottenham Hotspur’s tour of the United States to see a specialist in London.
The Kenyan powerhouse suffered a recurrence of the same knee injury which saw him sidelined for four months last season, Pochettino admitted.
The severity of Wanyama’s problem is yet to be discovered but it’s time that the Argentine plans for the worst case scenario and takes a look at possible cover signings – and he might already know the perfect one.
Tottenham have spent much of this summer being linked with Wilmar Barrios, who impressed for Colombia during the World Cup.
Negotiations seemed to be at an advanced stage, and Marca, the Colombian edition of the newspaper, revealed that Spurs had spoken to the 24-year-old’s family over a move to North London.
Barrios did, however, wind up signing a contract extension with Boca Juniors which killed off speculation about a move to Pochettino’s side – but Wanyama’s injury should force them to take another look.
The powerful midfielder might have signed a contract extension, but his release clause is still only £20 million [Ole] and the Lilywhites shouldn’t think twice if Wanyama is ruled for the long term again.
