Tottenham Hotspur target Mateo Kovacic reportedly has a £44 million price-tag over his head.

According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur would have to pay £44 million to sign Mateo Kovacic, but even at that price the Real Madrid man would be worth taking a risk on.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been long-term admirers of Kovacic, and have been linked with him over a considerable number of transfer windows.

It seems that the Croatian could finally be on his way out of Madrid this summer, although the Spanish side have put a £44 million asking price over his head.

That would make him Tottenham’s record signing, but doing so should be a no-brainer.

Kovacic looks ready to make a huge impact at whatever club signs him and makes him a regular starter.

Blessed with energy and technical ability, Kovacic has ever skill required to be one of the top midfielders in world football.

Unfortunately for Kovacic at international level he competes with Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic, and he has been unable to force his way into Madrid’s starting line-up on a consistent basis.

But Spurs should be encouraged by Madrid’s desire to keep the 24-year-old, as that just proves his quality.

And if Tottenham can get a deal done for £44 million, Pochettino and Daniel Levy should still consider the transfer a very appealing one this summer.
