Spanish title chasers Valencia are reportedly ready to bid £22m for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
According to The Sun, Valencia are ready to return for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko in January, after failing to land him on deadline day in the summer.
The Sun adds that the Spanish title chasers are willing to pay £22m for the Frenchman, who was an initial flop at a cost of £30m upon arriving from Newcastle United in 2016.
Having been expected to leave Spurs in the last transfer window, Sissoko has ended up featuring in every game so far this term – the only other Tottenham player to do that is Eric Dier.
Sissoko has even scored his first couple of goals for Spurs – after 43 games without one – and has started crucial recent matches against Real Madrid and Manchester United.
However, that he is not quite as bad as he was last season is no reason for Spurs to keep the 28-year-old when they could recoup the majority of the money that was wasted on him.
Sissoko has showed greater application and industry this campaign, which is little surprise considering that there is a World Cup on the horizon, but is technically way behind his teammates.
His unreliable passing and finishing can be a liability to Tottenham in big matches, as evidenced by him squandering a golden chance in the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford last month.
Spurs have options within their squad who are returning to fitness – Victor Wanyama and Erik Lamela – who can cover Sissoko’s two positions, and may be lining up an upgrade from elsewhere.
The Telegraph reports that Ross Barkley is a January target for Mauricio Pochettino, and the Everton midfielder would definitely be a step up on Sissoko, should the reported Valencia offer land.
