Tottenham Hotspur should reject chance to sign Andre Gomes

Tottenham Hotspur should pass up the opportunity to snap up Andre Gomes from Barcelona.

According to Catalan News, Andre Gomes is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona – but Mauricio Pochettino shouldn’t grant the midfielder his wish.

Gomes reportedly feels that Spurs would be the ideal club for him to develop at, but Pochettino should have seen enough from the Portuguese international’s time at Barca to warn him off bringing him to north London.

Gomes moved to the Nou Camp in 2016, but he simply has not done enough to prove he merits a place in their team.

While there is no shame in not being a permanent starter for Barca, Gomes has still not shown the quality required to be a standout player at Tottenham.

With Mousa Dembele looking likely to depart, Spurs need top quality to replace him and Gomes would not be that.

The midfielder, who is valued at £35 million (Gianluca Di Marzio), may feel that he can improve at Spurs, but Pochettino needs a talent who is outstanding already, if he is to replace Dembele without feeling the loss of the Belgian.

And although Gomes is a player who has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time, Pochettino should pass up the opportunity to sign the Portuguese international this summer.
