Tottenham Hotspur should attempt to jump ahead of Aston Villa in the race for Brentford striker Scott Hogan.

With Tottenham Hotspur still searching for potent back-up to Harry Kane, they should make a move for Brentford forward Scott Hogan in the January transfer window.

Spurs have attempted to splash big money to find an elusive goalscoring forward, but the move for Vincent Janssen has not worked out as planned so far.

While Tottenham would be foolish to entirely write off Janssen yet, there is a realisation that he is simply not good enough to replace Kane at this moment in time.

The Dutch forward has proven that he can take a penalty since moving to Spurs, but he has failed to pose much of a threat in open play.

Tottenham are now continuing to search for another striker, and Hogan should fit the description of what they are looking for.

The 24-year-old may not be a high profile addition, but he is one of the most talented players in the Championship and should not be overlooked.

Hogan has scored 20 goals in his last 27 league appearances for Brentford, which proves he knows exactly where the net is.

Hogan has already been linked with Aston Villa (The Sun) ahead of the January transfer window, but Spurs should be looking to rival Steve Bruce’s side.

Tottenham hesitated over moving for Moussa Dembele, who had impressed with Fulham last January, and the French youth international’s form at Celtic suggests that they will regret pulling out of that deal.

Hogan has scored even more prolifically than Dembele in the second tier of English football, and the signs are all there that he is ready to make the step up.

Hogan was playing non-league football only four years ago, but the likes of Jamie Vardy and Michail Antonio have proven that it is not impossible for players to make the step up to the top tier.

If Spurs were to move to Hogan it would pose little risk to them. His wages would be low, and his transfer fee would not be particularly excessive. The reward could be huge though, and if Spurs have an opportunity to get a deal for Hogan done, they should seize it with both hands.
