Tottenham Hotspur are said to have been planning making a move for Anthony Martial since February.

According to the Independent back in February, Tottenham Hotspur were planning to make a move for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial this summer.

Since the transfer window opened, though, there has been little talk of Spurs’ interest in Martial.

However, now could be the perfect time for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to make a bid for the French international – if they are keen to sign him.

Martial’s future at United appears to be in serious doubt, with Jose Mourinho clearly having reservations over using the former Monaco man.

Martial has failed to hold down a place in United’s first-team this season, and the Red Devils are going all out to strengthen their attack this summer.

United are close to sealing a deal for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, and they also hold a tentative interest in Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester Evening News).

If either of the pair does arrive at Old Trafford, then Martial’s chances of playing next season could become even more limited.

And it would be a great shame if Martial was consigned to a bench-warming role next season.

Spurs, though, could offer the 21-year-old far more than that – and under Pochettino he could thrive.

Martial’s talent is unquestionable, and his arrival at Spurs would surely give Pochettino the best attacking line-up in the Premier League.

Adding Martial to a forward unit which already contains Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen is a tantalising prospect for any Spurs fan, and Pochettino may benefit from exploring whether a deal could be possible.

United may not wish to sell to a rival, but they do hold an interest in Eric Dier (Telegraph) – and a possible trade could suit all parties.

Spurs may not want to lose Dier, but if it helps them land Martial, then the England international could be worth sacrificing.

And if Tottenham did ever plot to make a move for Martial this summer, as was originally stated, then Pochettino should be working hard to turn his plan into action in the coming weeks.
